About Us and Our Recommendations

Apartment near Cannes croisette designer shopping
Designer shops abundant in Cannes

We first came to Cannes about 20 years ago when our friends bought an apartment on the Rue d’Antibes. Ten years ago we were lucky enough to find our own apartment in a lovely part of Cannes, conveniently nestled between the Martinez and the Carlton Hotels. With beautiful beaches and great restaurants only a few steps away the location couldn’t be better.

One of the great things about Cannes is that it is always changing, always improving. Each time we visit we always see an area that has been improved or is being redeveloped. At the moment (in early 2024) there is a lot of work being carried out in the Palm Beach area. There is also a less than exciting new drainage system being put in by a tunnel micro boring system.

Whilst there are many luxury designer shops (in fact I am certain that every single Designer brand has a shop here) and wonderful restaurants; Cannes doesn’t have to be an expensive place to stay. There’s a lot of competition amongst the many restaurants so you can eat in at very reasonable prices. There is also a large Casino supermarket within walking distance of Rouaze Blue for food shopping.

The public beaches are of soft sand and at the private ones you can rent a very comfortable sunbed and shade for the day.

Our Tourist Recommendations

Cannes is brilliantly located as a base to explore the Cote d’Azur.

Nearby:

Lerin islands
A short ferry ride from Cannes are the beautiful, natural islands of Île Sainte-Marguerite and Île Saint-Honorat.

Saint-Honorat is only 3 kilometres long and 400 metres wide, There you will find the monastery of the Cistercian Congregation of the Immaculate Conception where the 21 resident monks have cultivated the vineyard with passion since the Middle Ages. All work (pruning, disbudding and harvesting) are carried out by hand, producing quality wines which are available to buy. Watching a service at the Monastery is a wonderful experience.

Sainte-Marguerite
The larger of the Lerins islands Sainte Marguerite is famous for its fortress prison (the Fort Royal), in which the so-called Man in the Iron Mask was held in the 17th century. After visiting the Fort and museum you can hike along the lush walking trails and then enjoy some local refreshments.

Mougins
Without doubt one of the most wonderful places to visit on the French Riviera. Only 15 minutes from Cannes , this superb medieval village is set amongst pines, olives and Cyprus trees.

Gourdon
One of the most stunning of the ‘perched villages of Provence’, one of the main attractions of the village is the far-reaching views.

A Little Further:

St Tropez and Ste Maxime
A trip to St Tropez is a must – in the Summer we would recommend driving to Sainte Maxime (around 1 hour 10 minutes) and then taking the bateux verts Navette which takes around 20 minutes and arrives right in the middle of the old port.

The best location for a drink (a great local secret) is upstairs at the Hotel Sube lounge bar – with seating on the balcony overlooking the harbour.
